Revisiting my eighties

One of my guilty pleasures is 80s music, bad saxophone, men wearing makeup and lacy shirts, relying way too much on cheap keyboards, and all. I love it; this probably has more to do with emotional/reminiscing reasons than anything else. The other day, I had a eff-I'm-old moment while getting my hair cut, when I asked the stylist if the music we were hearing came from satellite radio. "Yes!," she said, "it's the '90s music channel. I love discovering oldies from then, such a classic decade!" Gulp. It turns out she was actually born in the 90s. And here I was thinking that since I had a personal association with it, 80s music couldn't be qualified as oldies yet. My bad.

So here is my personal playlist from that decade, during which I was between 5 and 15 (therefore reminding me of a whole slew of very important firsts).

I guess I was a little too young to really be part of the "John Hughes generation", by which I mean I wasn't actually dating or drinking or going to parties or driving a car or anything. But I was still definitely drawn to and fascinated by that universe, which was *the coolest thing* back then... That poster was behind the door in my bedroom from 12 to 14 -very important years.

OMD - If you leave

When in Rome - The Promise

Simple Minds - Don't you (forget about me)

Modern English - Melt with you

Information Society - What's on your mind?

Tom Tom Club - Genius of love

The Cure - Boys don't cry

Billy Idol - Dancing with myself

The Smiths - How soon is now?

New Order - Temptation

The Go-Gos - Our lips are sealed

Depeche Mode - Just can't get enough

Bryan Adams - Summer of '69

Madonna - Into the Groove

General Public - Tenderness

Soft Cell - Tainted Love

Duran Duran - Hungry like the wolf

The Police - So lonely

Violent Femmes - Blister in the sun

The Clash - Should I stay or should I go?

The Pixies - Here comes your man

INXS - Need you tonight

Salt'n'Pepa - Push it

Pet Shop Boys - Domino dancing

Neneh Cherry - Buffalo stance

REM - Stand

U2 - Desire

(P.S. I am very aware that this list will make a certain co-worker of mine, whose name begins with a G (and who's not a Gen-Xer), cringe and maybe even puke).

Trop bon!

I must have watched Pretty in Pink a million times! 80's music is definitely considered "oldies" now. Me too, I suppose! I was watching the movie "Breakin" the other day with Marcus and we were hysterical over it. It was so awful and the clothes were so terrible. But I used to wear almost all of it! HA!!

That's soooo my playlist!!!! I wasn't old enough to go out drinking in the 80s...I was born in 72 and the drinking age is 21 in the US but I was dancing in them in my mind. Come to think of it, one time I was actually allowed into a club when I was underage and it was the highlight of all my years! I still remmber dancing to Depeche Mode in that club. So fantastic!!!
