In my New Year's Resolutions for 2009 (yes I sorta take these things seriously, although not too much), I had written that I wanted to "figure out a way to maybe make some money with my non-IT-related writing". I.e., I'm a technical writer, which does qualify as writing for a living, but I wanted to maybe do something else, in real language, and try my hand at freelancing.
Well, soon enough 2009 had come and gone, and when I returned to these resolutions, this was the one I had completely FAILED.
But I'm a turtle, not an hare, and it seems that slowly but surely I always find my way.
I'm currently writing my first article (in French) for the Lifestyle (that would be Style de vie) section of the sympatico.ca website, which belongs to the local telephone/internet provider Bell.
And it's still far from Literature -it's for their upcoming Men's Beauty Feature, and believe it or not it discusses the various products male celebrities use and love, of all things. But it's a start! It's exposure. It's the beginning of a portfolio. It's fun, and it's validating. I have plenty of other ideas to pitch after this one, as well. So who knows where this will take me?
A year and a half later. Baby steps.

Brava! I always enjoy reading your thoughts, and I'm sure a wider audience will, too.
