My friend G is due to have her second child in November as well. She has a very well-dressed four year-old girl (a.k.a. LP's girlfriend), and is now expecting a boy. This happy coincidence means that we can simply switch all of our baby clothes, give them a new life, and not have to spend so much on things that only fit for a few weeks/months anyway. I haven't received the girl clothing yet, but little R was born in the spring, so the seasons and sizes might not match perfectly well for us, but it will still be an immense help. Of course, though, it's always fun to buy some new things for a baby...
The other day, Girl's Gone Child posted these pictures of her adorable toddler daughter (whom we met in her mom's belly) sporting dresses made by grandma:

And this nearly made me jump in excitement. Yes! It's as if I had forgotten that... you could actually make clothes! And that especially for tiny dresses like that, it was both really easy and cheap! Unfortunately this isn't Southern California and there aren't many places where they sell super hip fabrics like that here (not that I know of, anyway), but it turns out you can really easily shop for these online, and have even more choice and uniqueness. So hello mom! Have I ever told you how a good grandma/seamstress you are? (Because I could definitely do these, but don't have much time and energy these days, and this seems like such a fun this-is-my-first-granddaughter project, no?)
Also, I came across this collection called An American in Paris from Baby Gap... And I can't stop chuckling. The black, white and red palette, the striped leggings, the polka dots, the Audrey Hepburn trench coats, the little cardis... They really got it right. All that's missing is a beret for bébé to be sharing a drink at the Café de Flore with Simone de Beauvoir and the other existentialists.
And finally, here is the first thing M bought for his daughter.
I mean, how I am supposed to enforce this not-too-much-pink rule if I'm facing such deliberate and early mutiny? :-)

Because we'll have to dress her at some point, right?

I sometimes secretly wish I knew if I was having a boy or girl JUST so I could go and buy the clothes. I wouldn't tell anyone else though becuase then I'd end up with lots of Disney princess pink frilly cutesy slogan stuff.
You're so right about shopping online for fabric. Soooooooo much more choice. I like online quilting stores when I'm looking for a specific pattern or theme. They sell lightweight 100% cotton fabric (very suitable for little dresses) by the yard and even when adding shipping, it's not really more expensive than what you can find locally.
I love that M bought her little (pink) Doc Martens. Haha. :)
And I LOVE that you and your friend are re-using each other's baby clothes. SO smart. And layering is such a cute look anyways, that perhaps a lot of things can work, even if the seasons are a bit off?
I love them! She's totally going to rock her NaNas :)
And how lucky that you and your friend can do the clothes swap. Hope your Mom takes on the seamstress job!
You can always do it as soon as you know... :-) Gap and Old Navy started shipping to Canada yesterday, so I ordered the kids' Holidays clothes (a 0-3 months black-and-white polka dot outfit for bébé, and cool suede hi-tops and a black motorcycle knit sweater with leather elbow patches for LP)... Yeah I know it's not very green... :-( But so cute and convenient.
By the way my mom bought pajamas and a onesie for bébé to wear at the hospital when she's born, and over the phone she said: please don't fret, it's pink!!! But when I saw it it was lovely, more like powdery vintage rose with some brown, totally not pink-frilly-cutesy, and even organic! Wow!
Oops, that reply was meant to be for Brandy! ;-)
And thank you girls!
OH MY GOSH BABY GAP. You just *had* to share that link, didn't you? ;) Now I want to buy it all for my niece! That little red corduroy skirt is too much.
And M - how adorable! Pink, yes, but that is pink with attitude. Can't you imagine those with black tights, a tutu, and a stripey shirt? Sassy little thing, I think. ;)
Those boots are too much! Heart them.
Those boots are TOO cute! And that toddler is so well-dressed.
Fable is the best-dressed girl on the internet.
I'm so happy now Talia is in 12-18m clothes, the choices are so much wider and I can finally escape the world where everything is pink. It really isn't so bad once they get into toddler clothes - bear that in mind when the pink is driving you crazy!
