For the first two years I went to a private (but thankfully secular, which was a nice change from the nuns in elementary school) girls-only school. It was cool, but then as a lot of my friends switched to the local, public co-ed one, I followed them. It was also pretty cool (boys!), altough this was when my parents got divorced and I was reeling and have forgotten (blocked out?) a lot about this very weird time. This was the year of my rebellious streak, too, unsurprisingly. I followed the same cohort the next year, but in a different school again, for "seniors". Then, the final year, my mom moved to Quebec City and I went to boarding school there. All-girls again, strict Catholic nuns, (hideous) uniform, lots of meanness, coming home on weekends to a family in complete disarray; that year was awful.
4 schools in 5 years. You would have thought I was from a military family or something.
I never really had problems fitting in, altough at the same time I always felt "different". Isn't this the essence of teenagehood, a constant struggle between the all-encompassing need to conform to your peers and the strong yearning for opposition and individuality?
I just received 3 (!) different invitations for 20-year (!) reunions.
